Bald Eagle Ambassador | Dickerson Park Zoo 1988-2025

With a wingspan that never took to the skies, Phoenix still soared in the hearts of all who met her.

As a longtime resident of Dickerson Park Zoo, Phoenix was more than a Bald Eagle - she was a teacher, a symbol, and a bridge between people and the wild. Phoenix arrived in 1988, unable to return to the wild - but she found a new calling. As an ambassador for her species, she educated generations about the importance of wildlife conservation, the challenges facing raptors, and the beauty of the natural world. Her presence was commanding, her story unforgettable.

Her name, Phoenix, was a promise fulfilled: rising from adversity to become a beacon of hope. Her legacy lives on in the hearts she touched, the minds she opened, and the mission she helped carry forward.

Fly free, Phoenix. You will never be grounded in spirit.
